New Short Story Developing

I have a new idea for a short story.

Shamanic understanding of life is far more related to dimensions than experiences.

I initially thought of merging the two, but have decided I would like to tread a line where experience and the reality being experienced become blurred. The main aim is to show that what you experience and where you find yourself in life are related.

Most people do not have concepts for other dimensions beyond scientific constraints (time, length, frequency), while some extend themselves into believing in heaven and hell or cousins thereof.

What if sadness were not an emotion, but a place?
What if depression was a dead end that you could extricate yourself from?
What if happiness was a choice?

I have decided to tackle this little story backwards. Illustrate first and let the illustrations map a path for the story to follow.

Finding colours, mapping textures, look and feel. At the moment I do not even know what my character will look like so I just pasted The Little Dancer in there for now.

As I find more pics I hope to keep my blog updated.

Great Sages Know

"It is common knowledge among simple children and great sages that everything in existence can be conversed with. From within himself the Great Sage visited all the earthly beings for answers." - The Little Sage and the Hole in the Whole of the World

Golden Baobab Award 2012

Here in Africa magic is happening...

Little Human Being stories are popping onto pages, popping into print.

I have recently submitted my entry for the Golden Baobab Award - see one of the little pictures above

One of the Golden conditions is that the story must be unpublished (Whole or in part), which makes me hesitant, even to share the name thereof. My submission was re-requested without images, so I have decided that it must be OK for me to share one or two of them on the blog.

No story set in Africa would be complete without:

An adventurous journey into the unknown...

Encounters with wild animals; poisonous, dangerous, hungry...

Beautiful African Sunsets...

and a magical Mopani wood box that contains........  something :)

Winners of the Golden Baobab Award will be announced in the first week of November 2012 and I will be sure to keep this site updated.

If anybody knows of other great short story competitions feel free to post a link below

Have a great weekend

What a journey...

I have spent the last 2 weeks in a little cottage a stones throw from the ocean. My main aim has been to illustrate at least one of my short stories. A master of procrastination I must say that this has been an exceeding difficult task.

On Monday I return to the farm and hopefully will have something to show to a few agents and publishes. Five years in the making, the first of many many little stories is about to make its way into the world.

WHoop WHoop

Have a great weekend,
Reine

The Little Nearthlings Story

Not so long ago, lost in a little solar system not so far away there traveled a few Little Green Monsters.

For thousands of years these Little Green Monsters had been traversing the universe in search of a home and it was on this auspicious day that they encountered a beautiful little planet which they decided to name Nearth - Like Earths with a N in front – Nearth. Having found a home called Nearth the Little Green Monsters became Nearthlings.

The Nearthlings set about exploring and getting to know the local inhabitants. They met the birds, they introduced themselves to the animals and they got to know all the plants.

After thousands of years cramped up in a little space ship, planet Nearth was heaven.
There was more food than they could ever dream of eating. Fruit, nuts, berries and more... there was even a chocolate tree which produced superfine dark chocolate and it grew best when companion planed with a variety of espresso bush which produced great cappuccinos.
Life was good...
But, as was the nature of Nearthlings they soon found themselves restless and dissatisfied with sitting around enjoying an easy life. Something had to change.

First the Nearthlings started eating the other inhabitants and animals on the planet. As you can imagine those being eaten did not really like this and one by one they left the little planet of Nearth and it was not long before the Nearthlings were all alone with no friends to keep them company.

With the entire planet to themselves the Nearthlings became bored, so they decided to invent a game. They called it MINE. MINE required a very distinct mindset and for participants it was mandatory to play the game no mater what the consequence to their integrity.
MINE was a big hit. All of the Nearthlings started playing the game. It was great. Once you had built up enough MINE points you could trade your MINE's for things. You could trade anything you found on Nearth and do what you wanted with it. You could chop down a few thousand trees and trade them for a hat or some other highly MINE'd item.

Soon everybody had a desirable piece of clothing and a part of Nearth to call MINE.

Life was good...

But, as was the nature of Nearthlings they soon found themselves bored once again. Something had to change.

The game was upgraded and MINE became MORE. MORE was much better. Advanced analytic solutions were implemented to keep track of which Nearthlings were doing best in the game. The game expanded and its greatness spread like a wild fire across the little planet of Nearth.

Life was good...
It was the nature of MORE that it knew no limits. And this is where the true nature of the Nearthlings shines forth. The most powerful and influential Nearthlings decided on a grand plan to take MORE to its pinnacle. Every little piece of Nearth was to be divided between the Nearthlings in proportion to their MORE score.

All the Nearths loved the idea. It was decided that a massive missile was needed to get the job done. On one fateful day the MORE missile was launched. It flew into outer space and returned at high speed. There was a big explosion and in a flash Nearth was divided so that each Nearthling could have a share of MORE happiness.

The Nearthlings did not want much, they wanted MORE. Sadly they eventually ended up with nothing, all alone on the skeleton of what used to be a sparkle in the eye of the universe.

This story may not be true, but it is real.

As long as we have a planet each and every little human being will also be an earthling.

There are no more Nearthlings in the universe - only Lost Little Green Monsters

Follow your heart and do what you know to be true.

Friday's Monsterous Encounter - The Little Monster of Regret

This Friday we encounter the Little Monster of Regret.

Notice the sad woeful expression - The Little Regret Monster is always sad.
Notice the strained eyes always focused on the past. Notice the ghost-like form of a monster that can follow a man no matter where he runs, no matter where he tries to hide. Notice those venomous fangs. With time the Little Regret Monster can poison the destiny of even the most beautiful being.

It is evident that we are dealing with a well adapted monster. Thousands of years of evolution have honed this little critter into quite the adversary.

Despite its arsenal of venom and woefulness the Little Regret Monster can be conquered.
Regret always lives in the past. As soon as you begin to live your life in the present moment the Little Regret Monster loses all its power.

Regret poisons you slowly, but there is an antidote to this venom. If you suspect that the Little Regret Monster has bitten you, you can do the following:
Find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed.
Search through your memories of the past.
Find if there are any memories that have been poisoned my the Little Regret Monster.
If you find a poisoned memory take time to view it honestly and completely.
Once viewed take a healthy serving of forgiveness and apply it to the memory.

Forgiveness of Self is an amazingly powerful ally. As you apply it to your past it allows you to bring your energy into the present.

As you bring your consciousness into the present moment you will find that your passion for life grows and your future unfolds magically before you.

Find the forgiveness and the passion in your heart, let them grow, and then let them overflow into your life...

With the truth at your side no little monster stands a chance.

Check-in next Friday
for another
monsterous encounter
ha ha ha ha ha (ominously evil laugh)

The Little Pixie Story

Once upon a time in a land far far and away there lived a little pixie.

The little pixie found life to be mundane and rather sad. One day he decided it was time for a change and so he went forth to look for happiness.
The little pixie looked behind the bushes. He climbed trees and even searched around a little pond looking for happiness, but happiness could not be found.

Sill searching he met a wise old sage. “Hello Mr W O Sage. Do you know where I can find happiness?” the little pixie enquired.

“Happiness comes from within.” Came the reply.

And so the little pixie continued looking for happiness, but changed his approach. This time he looked inside the bushes. He climbed into the pond and searched inside. He even found an old hollow tree and searched inside it. But happiness remained ever elusive.

Then the little pixie found a beautiful little girl meditating in a field.

“Ohm, excuse me Miss B L Girl, I am looking for happiness. Do you know where I can find it?” asked the little pixie.

“Easy, all you need to do is be open and receptive.” She replied.

The little pixie went home opened all the doors and windows in his house. He took the lids off all the jars in the kitchen and even kept his mouth open (and receptive) as much as possible.

This may come as a surprise to some, but despite all his new found openness and receptivity the little pixie came no closer to finding happiness. Despite all his searching within, happiness remained hidden.

The next day, mouth wide open, the little pixie continued his search.

Walking down the road the little pixie came across a big man with a big grin, polishing his big red sports car in front of a big house.

“Hello Mr B G Man, do you know where I can find happiness?” asked the little pixie.

“Money makes me happy” came his reply.

The little pixie headed home and spent the next 3 days gathering money. He had mountains of it. There was money in the kitchen, there was money in the garden, the bath was filled with money and the entire the lounge was filled with money. Everywhere he looked, all the little pixie could see was money, money, money.

Pixies are quite cleaver little things, but sometimes they just get it wrong.

After 2 weeks of looking within and being open and receptive the little pixie still had not found happiness.

Despite having more money than he could imagine, happiness could not be found.

The End

Let it be known that even money cannot buy you happiness if you do not truly understand the nature of reality.

The Little Dreamcatcher Story

One day in a land far far and away a little girl was walking across a field. The sun filled the sky and green hills rolled out in every direction.

Out the corner of her eye the little girl noticed a strange little purple thing waddling in the distance. It was furry and it had wings.

She cautiously approached until she could hear the thing singing. Only one furry winged entity can hold a tune - a dream. The little girl's mind started racing. She knew that dreams find their way across space and time when their dreamer is ready. She knew that dreams are not easy to catch, some people spend years chasing their dreams.

"What shall I do?"

There are 2 types of dreams. You get sleep-dreams and you get life-dreams. Sleep-dreams run through your mind every night, but this was a life-dream. Life-dreams are very powerful. Life-dreams carry with them hope and aspiration. A well initiated life-dream can change the destiny of its dreamer. A life-dream with the right intention and passion can change the destiny of mankind.

The little girl knew that this was no night-dream that she had encountered, but decided to use the old pretending to be asleep trick to catch it. She gathered a few stones, put them in her dress pocket, lay down in the soft grass and pretended to fall fast asleep.

It took a while, but the dream approached. When it was just a few steps away the little girl jumped. Simultaneously the dream turned and ran. The little girl set out after her dream.

They ran across the field. They ran up the hills, they ran down the hills. Every time the dream tried to take to the air the little girl would take one of those stones out of her pocket and throw the dream out of the sky.

They ran on and on and on, but the dream was always one step ahead of her. She had no more stones and tired legs, but just when the little girl was about to give up they ran past a nice long stick (I think it was an old broomstick). This was exactly what the little girl needed. She picked up the stick and with a big smile she chased on. Patiently she waited for the right moment. As the dream tried one last time to fly away the little girl used the stick and whacked that dream out of the sky like a baseball player hits a home run.

The dream flew, the dream fell.

With a big smile the little girl picked up her dream and put it in her pocket.

THE END

Dreams are everywhere. You will notice that children chase then every single day.
Some dreams are cute and fluffy, but there are others that demand endurance, perseverance and sometimes a large stick.
Once you have your dream remember that nobody can take it away from you.

Find your dream, make it yours and then share it with the world.
